About Mintro Travels

Our Story

We live to travel,
so you travel to live.

Mintro Travels connects curious people with the world โ€” through journeys that are personal, purposeful, and unforgettable.

Who We Are

A boutique travel consultancy built on one simple belief

Travel is not a product. It is a feeling โ€” the quickening of your pulse as you round a bend and catch your first glimpse of Sigiriya rising from the jungle, or the quiet contentment of watching the sun dissolve into the Indian Ocean from a fort that has stood for four centuries.

At Mintro Travels, we are a team of passionate travellers, local specialists, and dedicated journey architects based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Since 2026, we have been crafting private, personalised travel experiences across Asia and the Indian Ocean โ€” not for the masses, but for the few who understand that the best journeys are the ones that feel made for you alone.

We do not sell off-the-shelf packages. We listen, then we design.

How Mintro Travels began

Since 2026

Colombo, Sri Lanka

Our Story

How it all began

Mintro Travels was born in 2026 from a frustration that many travellers know well: the growing gap between what travel brochures promise and what you actually experience on the ground.

Our founders โ€” a small team of four friends, all passionate travellers and Sri Lanka locals โ€” believed there was a better way. Instead of building another booking platform, they built something far more personal: a network of destination experts, handpicked guides, and trusted local partners who could offer travellers something no algorithm ever could โ€” genuine insider knowledge and a deep care for the people and places they serve.

What started as a small consultancy helping visitors discover the hidden depth of Sri Lanka soon grew into something larger. Word spread. Travellers returned. They brought their families, their friends, their colleagues. And slowly, destination by destination, Mintro Travels expanded โ€” from the emerald hills of the Sri Lankan interior to the powder-white atolls of the Maldives, the terraced rice fields of Bali, the lantern-lit streets of Hแป™i An, and the ancient temples of Thailand.

Today, more than 8,400 travellers later, we are still the same company at heart.

What Sets Us Apart

The Mintro difference

In a world of instant bookings and algorithmic itineraries, Mintro Travels does things differently.

We match you with a local expert, not a call centre.

Every traveller is connected directly with a destination specialist who lives in the country you are visiting โ€” someone who can tell you which viewpoint the guidebooks missed and which restaurant the locals love.

We build your journey from scratch.

No two Mintro itineraries are identical. We take the time to understand who you are, what excites you, what matters to you, and what you hope to feel. Then we build three personalised proposals โ€” completely free of charge.

We stay with you every step of the way.

From the moment you share your travel wishes to the day you return home, there is always a real person on hand โ€” not a chatbot, not a ticketing system โ€” ready to answer your questions and make sure everything runs smoothly.

We take only what we can do brilliantly.

We deliberately keep our client numbers manageable. Because we would rather deliver one extraordinary journey than ten mediocre ones.

Where We Take You

Our destinations

We specialise in some of the world's most captivating destinations โ€” and we know every one of them intimately.

Ahangama

Sri Lanka

Ahangama

A laid-back coastal village south of Galle known for its world-class yoga retreats, Ayurvedic spas, surf breaks, and the iconic stilt fishermen โ€” a perfect destination for wellness and mindfulness.

Anuradhapura

Sri Lanka

Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura is one of the ancient world's greatest cities โ€” a sprawling UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first capital of Sri Lanka, founded in the 4th century BC. For over a thousand years it was the seat of Sinhalese kings and a beacon of Buddhist civilisation, producing colossal dagobas (stupas) that still rank among the largest ancient structures on earth. The sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree, grown from a cutting of the original Bo tree under which the Buddha attained enlightenment, is the oldest documented tree in the world. Wander among moonstone-carved temple entrances, lotus ponds, and ancient hospitals as twilight paints the ruins golden.

Arugam Bay

Sri Lanka

Arugam Bay

Arugam Bay is Sri Lanka's surfing mecca โ€” a legendary crescent bay on the remote east coast that draws surfers from around the world to ride its long, consistent right-hand point break from May to October. The town has a wonderfully relaxed, bohemian vibe with laid-back beach bars, fresh seafood shacks, yoga studios, and colourful tuk-tuks. Beyond surfing, the surrounding area offers superb wildlife: nearby Kumana National Park is a birder's paradise with vast lagoons of nesting flamingos and pelicans, while elephant sightings on the road south are common. Arugam Bay feels like a discovery โ€” authentic, unhurried, and utterly beautiful.

Bentota

Sri Lanka

Bentota

Sri Lanka's premier beach resort destination, famous for golden sand beaches, water sports, and the serene Bentota River lined with mangroves. A perfect blend of relaxation and adventure on the southwest coast.

Beruwala

Sri Lanka

Beruwala

Sri Lanka's Ayurveda capital โ€” renowned for authentic traditional healing retreats, herbal therapies, and rejuvenating treatments. A serene coastal destination dedicated to holistic wellness and renewal.

Colombo

Sri Lanka

Colombo

Sri Lanka's vibrant capital is a city of fascinating contrasts โ€” gleaming glass skyscrapers rise beside colonial-era government buildings, while the scent of cinnamon and spices drifts from Pettah's chaotic bazaars. The recently developed Galle Face Green seafront promenade is perfect for evening strolls, street food, and watching the sun sink into the Indian Ocean. World-class restaurants serve cuisine ranging from authentic Sri Lankan rice-and-curry to innovative fine dining. The National Museum, Gangaramaya Buddhist Temple, and the bustling Dutch Hospital shopping precinct are all unmissable. Colombo is typically the gateway into Sri Lanka and rewards those who take the time to explore.

Ella

Sri Lanka

Ella

Perched high in Sri Lanka's emerald hill country, Ella is a laid-back mountain village that has captured the hearts of travellers from around the world. The famous Nine Arch Bridge โ€” a masterpiece of colonial-era railway engineering โ€” frames perfectly against rolling tea estates and dense jungle. Hike to the summit of Little Adam's Peak for panoramic valley views, trek through lush tea plantations to Ella Rock, or simply watch clouds drift through the Ella Gap from a hilltop cafรฉ. The train journey from Kandy to Ella through cascading waterfalls and mist-draped mountains is considered one of the most scenic rail routes on earth.

Galle

Sri Lanka

Galle

Galle is a living colonial masterpiece where Dutch cobblestone streets wind between whitewashed walls, boutique hotels, and colourful cafรฉs. The Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Portuguese and later fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century, contains the finest example of a fortified city built by Europeans in South and Southeast Asia. Walk the ramparts at sunset as the Indian Ocean crashes below, visit the old lighthouse, browse independent galleries, and enjoy some of the finest dining in Sri Lanka. Just beyond the fort, palm-lined beaches and surf breaks await.

Hikkaduwa

Sri Lanka

Hikkaduwa

A vibrant beach town renowned for its coral reef sanctuary, sea turtles, and excellent snorkelling. The lively beach strip offers a mix of surf, sun, and Sri Lankan seafood culture.

Horton Plains

Sri Lanka

A hauntingly beautiful highland plateau at 2,100m โ€” home to World's End cliff, Baker's Falls, cloud forests, and herds of wild deer. One of Sri Lanka's most dramatic landscapes.

Kanda Uda

Sri Lanka

Kanda Uda

A tranquil highland retreat area offering world-class Ayurvedic treatments, yoga, meditation, and holistic wellness programmes among pristine tea estates and misty mountain air.

Kandy

Sri Lanka

Kandy

Nestled among misty green hills in the heart of Sri Lanka, Kandy is the cultural soul of the island. Home to the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic โ€” one of Buddhism's most revered shrines โ€” the city pulses with ancient tradition. Stroll the tranquil shores of Kandy Lake, explore the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya with over 4,000 plant species, and witness the spectacular Esala Perahera festival when it transforms the streets with magnificently adorned elephants, drummers, and fire dancers. Surrounded by tea-covered hills, Kandy is both a spiritual journey and a visual feast.

Kitulgala

Sri Lanka

Kitulgala

Sri Lanka's white-water rafting capital on the Kelani River, offering Grade 3โ€“4 rapids, jungle trekking, birdwatching, and the famous filming location of the movie Bridge on the River Kwai.

Knuckles Range

Sri Lanka

Knuckles Range

A UNESCO World Heritage wilderness with dramatic ridges, cloud forests, and stunning panoramas. One of Sri Lanka's best trekking destinations with trails ranging from day hikes to multi-day adventures.

Mirissa

Sri Lanka

Mirissa

Mirissa is Sri Lanka's premier beach destination โ€” a gorgeous crescent of golden sand fringed with swaying coconut palms and lapped by warm turquoise waters. Beyond sunbathing and swimming, Mirissa is world-renowned as one of the best places on earth to spot blue whales, sperm whales, and playful spinner dolphins on morning boat tours between November and April. As evening falls, the beachside restaurants come alive with fresh seafood grills, bonfire parties, and a warm, convivial atmosphere that makes Mirissa impossible to leave. Nearby Parrot Rock offers a wonderful snorkelling spot just a short swim from shore.

Nuwara Eliya

Sri Lanka

Nuwara Eliya

High in the cool misty mountains at 1,868 metres above sea level, Nuwara Eliya โ€” affectionately called "Little England" โ€” is unlike anywhere else in Sri Lanka. The British colonial legacy is everywhere: Tudor-style bungalows, a Victorian post office, manicured golf courses, and rose gardens sit amid an undulating landscape of immaculate tea estates. Visit a working tea factory to learn how Ceylon tea goes from leaf to cup, walk the shores of Lake Gregory, and pick fresh strawberries from roadside stalls. The air is crisp, the scenery extraordinary, and the colonial charm utterly captivating โ€” especially on a background of misty hilltops bathed in golden afternoon light.

Pigeon Island

Sri Lanka

Pigeon Island

A national marine park off Trincomalee with outstanding reef diving, blacktip reef sharks, and some of the clearest waters in Sri Lanka. A must-visit for snorkellers and divers.

Polonnaruwa

Sri Lanka

Polonnaruwa

Polonnaruwa was Sri Lanka's medieval capital from the 11th to 13th centuries, and its well-preserved ruins form one of the island's most rewarding historical experiences. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ancient city is best explored by bicycle along shaded paths between towering dagobas, ornate palace ruins, and the magnificent Gal Vihara โ€” four colossal Buddha figures carved from a single granite face with breathtaking artistry and detail. Unlike the more spread-out Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa is compact enough to explore in a full day, and its combination of beautiful ruins, resident wildlife (including monkeys and water monitor lizards), and peaceful rural setting makes it truly special.

Sigiriya

Sri Lanka

Sigiriya

Rising 200 metres above the surrounding jungle, Sigiriya is Sri Lanka's most iconic landmark. This ancient rock fortress was built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Climb the dramatic stairways carved into the rock face, pass the famous Lion's Paw entrance, and discover breathtaking frescoes of celestial maidens painted on the sheer cliff walls. At the summit, ruins of a royal palace offer panoramic views across the jungle plains of the Cultural Triangle. Sigiriya is widely regarded as the Eighth Wonder of the Ancient World.

Sinharaja

Sri Lanka

Sinharaja

Sri Lanka's last viable area of primary tropical rainforest and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Home to endemic birds, reptiles, and mammals found nowhere else on earth โ€” a paradise for naturalists.

Tangalle

Sri Lanka

Tangalle

One of Sri Lanka's most pristine and uncrowded beaches, with a beautiful lagoon, turtle hatcheries, and a relaxed atmosphere perfect for those seeking an unspoiled tropical escape.

Trincomalee

Sri Lanka

Trincomalee

On Sri Lanka's sun-drenched east coast, Trincomalee guards one of the finest natural deep-water harbours in the world. The beaches here are magnificent โ€” Nilaveli and Uppuveli stretch for kilometres of powder-white sand beside crystal-clear waters that are ideal for snorkelling and diving, particularly around Pigeon Island National Park where colourful reef fish and blacktip reef sharks patrol vibrant coral gardens. Between May and October, blue whales and dolphins are sighted regularly just offshore. The hilltop Koneswaram Temple, perched dramatically on Swami Rock above the ocean, is one of Sri Lanka's most sacred Hindu shrines. Trincomalee remains wonderfully unspoilt.

Udawalawe

Sri Lanka

Udawalawe

One of the best places in Asia to see wild elephants in their natural habitat. Udawalawe National Park is home to over 400 elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles, and diverse bird species.

Unawatuna

A beautiful crescent bay near Galle with calm turquoise waters, a coral reef for snorkelling, and a charming village of boutique guesthouses, seafood restaurants, and yoga retreats.

Sri Lanka

Wilpattu

Sri Lanka's largest national park โ€” a wilderness of natural lakes (villus), dense jungle, and extraordinary biodiversity including leopards, sloth bears, and hundreds of bird species.

Yala National Park

Sri Lanka

Yala National Park

Yala National Park is Sri Lanka's most visited wildlife sanctuary and one of the best places in the world to spot the elusive Sri Lankan leopard in its natural habitat. Covering over 1,200 square kilometres of dry scrub forest, grasslands, and lagoons bordering the Indian Ocean, the park is home to the world's highest density of leopards as well as elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, peacocks, and hundreds of bird species. Dawn and dusk jeep safaris through the park's five blocks deliver extraordinary encounters with wildlife against dramatic backdrops of ancient ruins and coastal sunsets. A safari in Yala is the undisputed highlight of any Sri Lanka adventure.

What Drives Us

What drives us every day

Local Expertise

Every itinerary we craft is guided by specialists who live, breathe, and love their destination โ€” people who can tell you the best time to visit a temple, the family-run guesthouse not yet on TripAdvisor, and the back road that leads to a view nobody else knows about.

Responsible Travel

We partner exclusively with local operators, family-run accommodation providers, and community-based experiences that put money back into the places we visit. We actively discourage practices that exploit wildlife, damage ecosystems, or disrespect local culture.

People First

Your journey is personal. We do not begin designing until we have listened. Every question you ask matters. Every preference you share shapes what we create. And when things do not go to plan, we are the people who answer the phone and find the solution.

Award-Winning Service

Recognised by the World Travel Awards for excellence in boutique travel consultancy, we measure our success by the messages we receive after the journey ends โ€” the ones that say: "That was the best trip of my life."

Our Promise
